SLAM
SLAM, or Simultaneous Localization and Mapping, is a technology used in robotics and computer vision. It enables a device, like a robot or a drone, to create a map of an unknown environment while simultaneously keeping track of its own location within that environment. This is crucial for tasks like navigation and exploration in areas where GPS signals may be weak or unavailable.
The process involves using sensors, such as cameras and LIDAR, to gather data about the surroundings. Algorithms then analyze this data to build a map and determine the device's position. SLAM is widely used in applications like autonomous vehicles, augmented reality, and robotic vacuum cleaners.
