SADR
The SADR, or Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, is a self-proclaimed state that claims sovereignty over the Western Sahara region. It was declared in 1976 by the Polisario Front, a liberation movement seeking independence from Morocco. The SADR is recognized by some countries and is a member of the African Union, but it is not widely recognized as a sovereign state.
The SADR operates from refugee camps in Algeria and has its own government and institutions. The region of Western Sahara remains a disputed territory, with ongoing tensions between the SADR and Morocco, which controls most of the area. International efforts to resolve the conflict have been ongoing for decades.
