Sōsaku Hanga
Sōsaku Hanga, meaning "creative prints," is a Japanese art movement that emerged in the early 20th century. Unlike traditional woodblock printing, where the artist collaborated with craftsmen, Sōsaku Hanga artists created their own prints from start to finish. This approach emphasized individual expression and artistic freedom.
Key figures in the Sōsaku Hanga movement include Kawase Hasui and Yasuo Kuniyoshi. The movement sought to blend Western artistic techniques with Japanese aesthetics, resulting in unique prints that often reflected modern themes and personal experiences. Sōsaku Hanga remains influential in contemporary printmaking.
