Sōryū-class
The Sōryū-class is a class of submarines used by the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF). These submarines are designed for anti-submarine warfare, intelligence gathering, and surveillance missions. The first submarine of this class, the Sōryū, was commissioned in 2009 and features advanced stealth capabilities and modern technology.
Each Sōryū-class submarine is equipped with air-independent propulsion (AIP) systems, allowing them to operate underwater for extended periods without surfacing. This enhances their operational range and effectiveness compared to traditional diesel-electric submarines. The class represents a significant advancement in Japan's underwater naval capabilities.
