Sámi Religion
The Sámi religion is a traditional belief system practiced by the Sámi people, indigenous to the northern regions of Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Russia. It is characterized by animism, where natural elements like animals, plants, and landscapes are believed to possess spirits. The Sámi also have a rich tradition of shamanism, with spiritual leaders known as noaidi who communicate with the spirit world to guide their communities.
Central to Sámi religion is the concept of duodji, or traditional crafts, which are often imbued with spiritual significance. Rituals and ceremonies, such as the joik (a form of song), play a vital role in connecting the Sámi with their ancestors and the natural world. The Sámi's reverence for nature reflects their deep cultural ties to the Arctic environment.
