Rwandan Patriotic Front
The Rwandan Patriotic Front (RPF) is a political party in Rwanda, founded in 1987 by Rwandan exiles, primarily from the Tutsi ethnic group. The party emerged in response to the discrimination and violence faced by Tutsis in Rwanda. It played a significant role in the Rwandan Civil War, which lasted from 1990 to 1994, ultimately leading to the end of the genocide against the Tutsi.
After the genocide, the RPF took control of the Rwandan government in July 1994. Under the leadership of Paul Kagame, the RPF has focused on national unity, economic development, and reconciliation. The party has maintained a dominant position in Rwandan politics since then, promoting policies aimed at rebuilding the nation.
