Ruvettus
Ruvettus is a genus of fish belonging to the family Gempylidae, commonly known as snake mackerels. These fish are characterized by their elongated bodies and smooth, shiny scales. They are typically found in deep ocean waters and are known for their predatory behavior, feeding on smaller fish and squid.
There are several species within the Ruvettus genus, with Ruvettus pretiosus being the most well-known. These fish are often caught for commercial purposes and are valued for their firm, oily flesh. However, they can contain high levels of mercury, which may pose health risks if consumed in large quantities.
