Russian Expeditionary Corps
The Russian Expeditionary Corps was a military unit formed during World War I, primarily composed of Russian soldiers. It was established in 1916 to support the Allied forces on the Western Front, particularly in the campaigns against the Central Powers. The corps was notable for its involvement in the Battle of the Somme and other significant operations.
The corps consisted of approximately 40,000 troops and was commanded by General Mikhail Alekseyev. Despite facing challenges such as harsh conditions and limited resources, the Russian Expeditionary Corps aimed to bolster the efforts of the Allied Powers and demonstrate Russia's commitment to the war.
