Rurikid
The term "Rurikid" refers to the ruling dynasty that originated from Rurik, a Varangian prince who is traditionally credited with founding the first East Slavic state, Kievan Rus, in the 9th century. The Rurikids played a significant role in the history of Eastern Europe, particularly in Russia, Ukraine, and Belarus, ruling for several centuries until the 17th century.
The dynasty is known for its contributions to the development of Russian culture, politics, and society. Notable Rurikid rulers include Vladimir the Great, who adopted Christianity, and Ivan the Terrible, the first Tsar of Russia. The Rurikid lineage ended with the death of Feodor I in 1598, leading to the Time of Troubles.
