Royal Irish Constabulary
The Royal Irish Constabulary (RIC) was a police force in Ireland established in 1836. It was responsible for maintaining law and order throughout the country, particularly during a time of political unrest and social change. The RIC was known for its distinctive uniform and was primarily composed of local Irish men, although it was overseen by British officials.
The RIC played a significant role in Irish history, especially during events like the Irish War of Independence (1919-1921). Following the establishment of the Irish Free State, the RIC was disbanded in 1922, and its functions were taken over by the new Garda Síochána, the national police service of Ireland.
