Rose O'Neal Greenhow
Rose O'Neal Greenhow was a prominent figure during the American Civil War, known for her role as a Confederate spy. Born in 1813 in Washington, D.C., she used her social connections to gather intelligence for the Confederate Army. Her efforts contributed to several Confederate victories, including the First Battle of Bull Run.
Greenhow was arrested in 1862 for her espionage activities and later exiled to the South. She continued to work for the Confederate cause until the war's end. Tragically, she died in 1864 when her ship sank while trying to return to Richmond, Virginia.
