Rooting Reflex
The rooting reflex is a natural instinct seen in newborns, helping them find food. When a baby's cheek is stroked or touched, they turn their head toward the stimulus and open their mouth. This behavior is crucial for breastfeeding, as it encourages the baby to latch onto the mother's breast.
This reflex typically appears at birth and usually fades by around four months of age. It is part of a group of reflexes that help infants survive and develop. The rooting reflex is essential for the early feeding process, ensuring that babies can seek out nourishment effectively.
