Roosevelt Island
Roosevelt Island is a narrow island located in the East River of New York City, between the boroughs of Manhattan and Queens. It is approximately 2 miles long and 800 feet wide, offering stunning views of the Manhattan skyline. The island is accessible by the Roosevelt Island Tramway, subway, and ferry.
Originally known as Blackwell's Island, it was renamed in 1971 in honor of Franklin D. Roosevelt, the 32nd President of the United States. Today, Roosevelt Island features residential buildings, parks, and historical sites, including the Renwick Smallpox Hospital and the Four Freedoms Park, dedicated to Roosevelt's vision of human rights.
