Ron Woodroof was an American electrician and rodeo cowboy who became known for his role in the fight against HIV/AIDS in the 1980s. After being diagnosed with HIV in 1986, he was given only 30 days to live. Instead of succumbing to his diagnosis, Woodroof sought alternative treatments and began to advocate for the rights of patients seeking access to medications.
He founded the Dallas Buyers Club, which provided HIV/AIDS patients with access to unapproved treatments and medications that were not yet available through traditional medical channels. Woodroof's efforts highlighted the struggles faced by those living with HIV/AIDS and brought attention to the need for better access to healthcare and treatment options.
