Roman Land Measurement
Roman land measurement, known as agrimensura, was a systematic approach used by the ancient Romans to survey and divide land. They employed tools like the groma, a cross-shaped instrument, to create straight lines and right angles, ensuring accurate plots for agriculture and construction.
The Romans also used the actus, a unit of measurement equivalent to about 120 Roman feet, to define land areas. This method allowed for efficient organization of land, which was crucial for managing their vast territories and supporting their agricultural economy.
