Roger I
Roger I, also known as Roger of Hauteville, was a Norman nobleman born around 1031. He is best known for his role in the conquest of southern Italy and Sicily during the 11th century. Roger I led a group of mercenaries and established himself as a powerful figure in the region, eventually becoming the Count of Sicily.
His military successes laid the foundation for the Norman rule in Sicily, which would later flourish under his descendants. Roger I's legacy includes the establishment of a diverse and culturally rich society, blending Norman, Arab, and Byzantine influences in the region.
