Robert C. Byrd Green Bank Telescope
The Robert C. Byrd Green Bank Telescope (GBT) is a large radio telescope located in Green Bank, West Virginia. It is the world's largest fully steerable radio telescope, with a dish measuring 100 meters in diameter. The GBT is used for various astronomical research projects, including studying pulsars, galaxies, and cosmic phenomena.
Operated by the National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO), the GBT began operations in 2000. Its advanced technology allows scientists to observe radio waves from distant celestial objects, contributing significantly to our understanding of the universe. The telescope is situated in the National Radio Quiet Zone, minimizing interference from radio signals.
