Norman invasion of Ireland
The Norman invasion of Ireland began in 1169 when a group of Norman knights, led by Richard de Clare, also known as Strongbow, arrived to support the local king, Dermot MacMurrough. This marked the start of a series of military campaigns that aimed to establish Norman control over parts of Ireland. The Normans quickly captured key territories, including Dublin.
Over the following decades, the Normans expanded their influence, building castles and settling in Ireland. Their presence led to significant changes in Irish society, culture, and politics, as they interacted with the native Irish population and established feudal systems.
