Richard and Mildred Loving
Richard and Mildred Loving were an interracial couple who became central figures in the fight against anti-miscegenation laws in the United States. In 1958, they were arrested in Virginia for marrying, as their union violated the state's laws prohibiting interracial marriage. The couple's case eventually reached the Supreme Court.
In 1967, the Supreme Court ruled in their favor in the landmark case of Loving v. Virginia, declaring that laws banning interracial marriage were unconstitutional. This decision was a significant step forward for civil rights, helping to dismantle legal barriers to interracial relationships across the country.
