Richard III Society
The Richard III Society is an organization dedicated to promoting the study and understanding of King Richard III and the historical context of his reign. Founded in 1924, the society aims to challenge misconceptions about Richard, particularly those stemming from William Shakespeare's portrayal of him as a villain.
Members of the society engage in research, publish newsletters, and organize events, including lectures and reenactments. They also support archaeological projects, such as the excavation of Richard III's remains in Leicester, which was discovered in 2012. The society fosters a community for enthusiasts of history and medieval studies.
