Richard Cabela was an American entrepreneur and co-founder of Cabela's, a popular retail chain specializing in outdoor recreation merchandise. Born on December 27, 1932, in Chase, Nebraska, he developed a passion for hunting and fishing at a young age, which later influenced his business ventures. In 1961, Richard and his wife, Mary, started a mail-order business selling fishing flies from their home. This venture grew into a successful retail operation, with the first store opening in Sidney, Nebraska, in 1963. Cabela's became known for its wide range of outdoor products and conservation efforts before being acquired by Bass Pro Shops in 2017.
