Richard Allen
Richard Allen was an influential African American minister and the founder of the African Methodist Episcopal Church (AME Church) in the early 19th century. Born in 1760 in Philadelphia, he was a former slave who became a prominent advocate for the rights of African Americans and played a crucial role in the religious and social life of his community.
In 1816, Allen established the AME Church to provide a space for Black worshippers who faced discrimination in white churches. His leadership and vision helped to create a significant religious institution that continues to serve millions today, promoting social justice and community empowerment.
