Rib Bones
Rib bones are curved bones that form the rib cage, which protects vital organs like the heart and lungs. In humans, there are typically 24 ribs, arranged in 12 pairs. Each rib connects to the spine at the back and most connect to the sternum at the front, providing structural support and flexibility.
Rib bones are classified into three types: true ribs, false ribs, and floating ribs. True ribs directly attach to the sternum, while false ribs connect indirectly. Floating ribs do not attach to the sternum at all. This structure allows for expansion during breathing, aiding in respiration.
