Rhomboid Major
The Rhomboid Major is a muscle located in the upper back, specifically between the shoulder blades. It originates from the spinous processes of the upper thoracic vertebrae and attaches to the medial border of the scapula. This muscle plays a crucial role in retracting the scapula, helping to pull the shoulder blades together.
In addition to retraction, the Rhomboid Major assists in elevating and rotating the scapula. It works in conjunction with other muscles, such as the Rhomboid Minor and Trapezius, to stabilize the shoulder girdle during various arm movements. Proper strength and flexibility in this muscle are important for maintaining good posture.
