Rhododendron Maximum
Rhododendron maximum, commonly known as the great rhododendron, is a large evergreen shrub native to the eastern United States. It typically grows between 5 to 15 feet tall and can reach up to 30 feet in optimal conditions. The plant features thick, leathery leaves and produces large clusters of showy flowers, usually in shades of white, pink, or purple, during late spring to early summer.
This species thrives in acidic, well-drained soils and prefers partial shade, often found in Appalachian forests. Rhododendron maximum is also valued for its ornamental appeal and is commonly used in landscaping, providing year-round greenery and vibrant blooms.
