Revolutionary United Front
The Revolutionary United Front (RUF) was a rebel group in Sierra Leone that emerged in the 1990s. It aimed to overthrow the government and was known for its brutal tactics, including violence against civilians and the use of child soldiers. The RUF's actions contributed to a devastating civil war that lasted from 1991 to 2002.
The conflict ended with a peace agreement, and the RUF was disbanded. Key leaders, including Foday Sankoh, were later tried for war crimes. The legacy of the RUF's violence still affects Sierra Leone today, as the country continues to recover from the impacts of the war.
