Reverse Transcriptase
Reverse Transcriptase is an enzyme that synthesizes DNA from an RNA template. This process is known as reverse transcription and is crucial for certain viruses, such as HIV, which use this enzyme to replicate their genetic material inside host cells.
In addition to its role in viral replication, reverse transcriptase is also used in laboratory techniques, such as RT-PCR, to convert RNA into DNA for further analysis. This ability to reverse the usual flow of genetic information makes reverse transcriptase a valuable tool in molecular biology and genetic research.
