Republic of Salò
The Republic of Salò was a puppet state established in northern Italy during World War II, existing from 1943 to 1945. It was formed after the fall of the Fascist regime led by Benito Mussolini, who was then rescued by German forces. The republic was located around the town of Salò on the shores of Lake Garda and was heavily influenced by Nazi Germany.
The government of the Republic of Salò was characterized by its authoritarian rule and collaboration with the Nazis. It sought to maintain Fascist ideals and control over the Italian populace, but faced resistance and opposition from various groups, including partisans. The republic ultimately collapsed in 1945 as Allied forces advanced into Italy.
