Republic of Ragusa
The Republic of Ragusa was a small maritime republic located on the Adriatic Sea, primarily in what is now Croatia. It existed from the 14th century until the late 18th century and was known for its thriving trade and diplomacy. The capital city, Dubrovnik, became a significant cultural and economic center, attracting merchants and travelers from various regions.
Ragusa maintained a unique political structure, with a council and elected officials, allowing for a degree of self-governance. The republic was notable for its efforts to remain neutral during conflicts, which helped it prosper despite the surrounding powers, including the Ottoman Empire and the Austrian Empire.
