Regional Accrediting Organizations
Regional Accrediting Organizations are private, nonprofit entities that evaluate and accredit educational institutions in specific geographic areas. They ensure that schools meet certain standards of quality and effectiveness in their programs, faculty, and student services. Accreditation helps students and employers recognize the value of a degree or certificate from an accredited institution.
These organizations operate in six regions across the United States, each responsible for overseeing institutions within its area. Examples include the Middle States Commission on Higher Education and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. Accreditation from these organizations is often required for federal financial aid and transfer of credits between schools.
