Reflux Condenser
A reflux condenser is a laboratory device used in distillation processes to cool and condense vapor back into liquid. It typically consists of a vertical tube surrounded by a cooling jacket, where cold water circulates to absorb heat from the vapor. This allows the vapor to condense and flow back into the distillation flask, enhancing the efficiency of the separation process.
In chemical engineering, reflux condensers are essential for achieving higher purity in the distillate. They are commonly used in conjunction with other equipment, such as distillation columns and flasks, to optimize the separation of different components in a mixture.
