Reflex Action
Reflex action is an automatic and rapid response to a stimulus that does not require conscious thought. It occurs through a neural pathway known as a reflex arc, which involves sensory neurons, interneurons, and motor neurons. For example, when you touch something hot, sensory receptors in your skin send a signal to your spinal cord, which immediately triggers a response to pull your hand away.
This quick reaction helps protect the body from harm. Reflex actions are essential for survival and are seen in many organisms, including humans. Common examples include the knee-jerk reflex and the blinking reflex when something approaches the eye.
