Red-necked Phalarope
The Red-necked Phalarope is a small wading bird known for its striking plumage. During the breeding season, males display a distinctive red neck and grayish body, while females are more colorful. These birds are typically found in Arctic regions, where they breed on wetlands and tundra.
In migration, the Red-necked Phalarope can be spotted along coastlines and inland lakes. They are unique among shorebirds as they often feed by spinning in circles on the water's surface, creating a vortex that brings small prey, like insects and crustaceans, within reach.
