Red Eft
The Red Eft is the terrestrial juvenile stage of the Eastern Red-spotted Newt, a type of salamander found in North America. These small amphibians are bright orange or red with distinctive black spots, making them easily recognizable. They typically inhabit moist woodlands and are often found near ponds or streams.
As they mature, Red Efts undergo a transformation into aquatic adults, which are olive green or brown with a more subdued appearance. This change allows them to adapt to different environments, as adults live in water while juveniles thrive on land. The life cycle of the Red Eft is an important part of the ecosystem, contributing to biodiversity.
