Rastislav of Slovakia was a significant historical figure who ruled as the Grand Prince of the Great Moravian Empire during the 9th century. He is best known for his efforts to strengthen the political and cultural unity of the Slavic peoples in the region. Rastislav sought to establish an independent church and invited the Byzantine brothers Cyril and Methodius to create a written system for the Slavic language.
