Rangifer tarandus
Rangifer tarandus, commonly known as the reindeer or caribou, is a species of deer found in Arctic and Subarctic regions. They are well-adapted to cold environments, with thick fur and a layer of fat for insulation. Both males and females grow antlers, which is unique among deer species.
These animals are herbivores, primarily feeding on lichens, grasses, and shrubs. They are known for their migratory behavior, traveling long distances in search of food. Reindeer play a significant role in the culture and economy of indigenous peoples, such as the Sami in Scandinavia.
