Ramsar Site
A Ramsar Site is a wetland area designated under the Ramsar Convention, an international treaty established in 1971 in Ramsar, Iran. These sites are recognized for their ecological importance, supporting biodiversity and providing essential services like water purification, flood control, and habitat for wildlife.
The convention aims to promote the conservation and sustainable use of wetlands worldwide. Each Ramsar Site is chosen based on criteria such as its uniqueness, the presence of rare species, or its role in supporting migratory birds. There are over 2,400 Ramsar Sites globally, covering various ecosystems, including marshes, lakes, and coastal areas.
