Ram Janmabhoomi movement
The Ram Janmabhoomi movement is a political and cultural campaign in India aimed at establishing a temple at the site believed to be the birthplace of Lord Rama, a major deity in Hinduism. This site, located in Ayodhya, has been a focal point of religious and political contention, particularly between Hindu and Muslim communities.
The movement gained momentum in the 1980s, leading to widespread mobilization among Hindu groups. In 1992, the Babri Masjid, a mosque built in the 16th century, was demolished by activists, resulting in significant communal riots. The Supreme Court of India ultimately ruled in 2019 that the land should be allocated for a temple, allowing the construction of the Ram Mandir to proceed.
