Rafael Cancel Miranda
Rafael Cancel Miranda is a Puerto Rican nationalist known for his involvement in the struggle for Puerto Rican independence. Born on July 18, 1930, he became a prominent figure in the Puerto Rican independence movement during the mid-20th century. In 1954, he and three others carried out an attack in the U.S. House of Representatives to draw attention to Puerto Rico's political status.
Miranda was arrested and sentenced to 50 years in prison for his actions. He served 25 years before being released in 1979. His life and activism have sparked discussions about Puerto Rico's political status and the ongoing debate over its relationship with the United States.
