Radiosurgery
Radiosurgery is a medical procedure that uses focused radiation beams to treat tumors and other abnormalities in the body. Unlike traditional surgery, it does not involve any incisions. Instead, it delivers high doses of radiation precisely to the targeted area, minimizing damage to surrounding healthy tissue. This technique is often used for conditions in the brain, such as brain tumors or arteriovenous malformations.
The procedure is typically performed using specialized equipment, such as the Gamma Knife or CyberKnife. Patients usually undergo imaging tests, like MRI or CT scans, to help plan the treatment. Radiosurgery is often an outpatient procedure, allowing patients to return home the same day.
