Rabbi Schneur Zalman
Rabbi Schneur Zalman of Liadi (1745-1812) was a prominent Jewish leader and the founder of the Chabad movement, a branch of Hasidic Judaism. He is best known for his philosophical writings, particularly the Tanya, which outlines the principles of Chabad thought and emphasizes the importance of serving God with both intellect and emotion.
Born in what is now Belarus, Rabbi Schneur Zalman was a disciple of Rabbi Dov Ber of Mezeritch. He played a crucial role in spreading Hasidic teachings and established a network of followers. His legacy continues to influence Jewish thought and practice today, particularly within the Chabad-Lubavitch community.
