Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson
Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, often referred to as the Rebbe, was the seventh leader of the Chabad-Lubavitch movement, a branch of Hasidic Judaism. Born on April 18, 1902, in Ukraine, he became a prominent rabbi and spiritual leader after assuming leadership in 1950. The Rebbe was known for his teachings on Jewish philosophy, ethics, and outreach, emphasizing the importance of education and community service.
Under his leadership, the Chabad movement expanded significantly, establishing centers worldwide to promote Jewish education and observance. Rabbi Schneerson was also a strong advocate for interfaith dialogue and social justice. He passed away on June 12, 1994, leaving a lasting legacy in the Jewish community.
