Queen Margherita of Savoy (Pizza)
Queen Margherita of Savoy was the queen consort of Italy in the late 19th century. She is famously associated with the creation of Pizza Margherita, a traditional Italian pizza that features simple toppings of tomatoes, mozzarella cheese, and fresh basil. This combination of ingredients represents the colors of the Italian flag: red, white, and green.
The pizza was reportedly created in 1889 by Raffaele Esposito, a Neapolitan pizzaiolo, to honor the queen during her visit to Naples. Since then, Pizza Margherita has become a symbol of Italian cuisine and is enjoyed worldwide for its fresh flavors and simplicity.
