Queen Jadwiga
Queen Jadwiga was the first female monarch of the Kingdom of Poland, reigning from 1384 until her death in 1399. She was born in 1374 and became queen at a young age, known for her intelligence and strong leadership. Jadwiga was crowned as a king, which was a unique title for a woman at that time, and she played a significant role in uniting Poland and Lithuania through her marriage to Grand Duke Jogaila.
Jadwiga was also a patron of education and the arts, contributing to the founding of the University of Kraków. She was deeply religious and known for her charitable works, particularly towards the poor. Her legacy continues to be celebrated in Poland, where she is remembered as a symbol of unity and strength.
