Pygmalion effect
The Pygmalion effect is a psychological phenomenon where higher expectations lead to improved performance in individuals. Named after the Greek myth of Pygmalion, a sculptor who fell in love with a statue he created, this effect illustrates how belief in someone's potential can influence their success. When teachers, managers, or peers expect more from someone, that individual often rises to meet those expectations.
This effect is commonly observed in educational and workplace settings. For instance, when teachers believe their students are capable of excelling, those students tend to perform better academically. Similarly, in a corporate environment, if a manager expresses confidence in an employee's abilities, the employee is likely to achieve greater results.
