Pullman Company
The Pullman Company was an American company founded in 1862 by George M. Pullman. It specialized in manufacturing luxury railroad cars, particularly sleeping cars, which provided comfortable accommodations for travelers. The company played a significant role in the expansion of rail travel in the United States during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
In addition to its manufacturing operations, the Pullman Company also created the town of Pullman, Illinois, designed to house its workers. The town was notable for its planned community features, including parks and schools. However, labor disputes in the 1890s, particularly the Pullman Strike, highlighted tensions between workers and management.
