George Pullman
George Pullman was an American industrialist best known for founding the Pullman Company, which manufactured railroad cars. Born on March 3, 1831, in Brockton, New York, he became a prominent figure in the railroad industry during the 19th century. His most notable invention was the luxurious sleeping car, which transformed train travel by providing comfortable accommodations for passengers.
In addition to his contributions to rail travel, Pullman is also known for creating the town of Pullman, Chicago, designed to house his workers. This planned community featured amenities such as parks and schools, reflecting his vision of a model industrial town. However, it also faced criticism for its strict regulations and control over residents' lives.
