Proconsul
Proconsul is an extinct genus of primates that lived in Africa during the late Miocene epoch, approximately 23 to 14 million years ago. It is considered an important ancestor of modern apes and humans, showcasing features that bridge the gap between earlier monkeys and later great apes. Proconsul had a mix of traits, including a flexible limb structure and a relatively large brain.
Fossils of Proconsul have been found in several locations, including Kenya and Uganda. These findings provide valuable insights into the evolution of primates, particularly in understanding how early species adapted to their environments. Proconsul's anatomy suggests it was well-suited for both climbing and moving on the ground.
