Procolophon
Procolophon is an extinct genus of small, herbivorous reptiles that lived during the late Permian to early Triassic periods, approximately 260 to 240 million years ago. These creatures are part of the group known as parareptiles, which are closely related to modern reptiles. Procolophon had a robust body, a relatively large head, and strong jaws, suggesting it was well-adapted for a plant-based diet.
Fossils of Procolophon have been found in various locations, including South Africa and North America. Its unique features, such as the structure of its skull and teeth, provide valuable insights into the evolution of early reptiles and their adaptations to different environments during a time of significant ecological change.
