Proboscis Monkeys
Proboscis monkeys, known scientifically as Nasalis larvatus, are unique primates native to the rainforests of Borneo and Sumatra. They are easily recognized by their large, distinctive noses, which are more prominent in males. These monkeys typically have a reddish-brown coat and long limbs, making them well-adapted for life in the trees.
These social animals live in groups called troops, which can consist of up to 20 individuals. Proboscis monkeys primarily feed on leaves, fruits, and seeds, and they are excellent swimmers, often using rivers to escape predators. Their populations are threatened by habitat loss and hunting.
